Trash Talk LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Trash Talk mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We believe in keeping things straightforward — no 40-page legal novels.
01. Information We Collect
When you use Trash Talk, we collect the following information:
- Account information — your email address and username when you sign up.
- Favorite teams — the sports teams you follow, so we know which games matter to you.
- Friend names — the names you assign to friends in the app, along with their favorite teams, so we can generate targeted trash talk.
- Usage data — how you interact with the app, including which trash talk messages you send, features you use, and general activity patterns. This helps us make the app better.
- Device & identifier information — operating system, app version, device model, a push-notification token, and mobile advertising identifiers (such as Apple's IDFA or the Google Advertising ID) used by our advertising partner to serve and measure ads.
- Purchase information — when you buy a subscription, our payment processor (Apple, Google, and our subscription manager RevenueCat) provides us with your subscription status, plan, transaction identifiers, and renewal/cancellation events. We never receive or store your full payment-card number.
- Photos you choose to attach — if you attach a screenshot to a feedback submission, the app accesses the specific image you select from your photo library. We are notified that a screenshot was attached; we do not silently scan or upload your photo library.
- Diagnostics & crash data — when the app or our servers encounter an error, our error-monitoring provider (Sentry) records technical information such as the error, device/OS, app version, and IP address to help us fix bugs.
We do not collect your contacts or precise location. We are not a financial institution and never receive your full payment-card details — all payments are processed by Apple or Google.
02. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the service — deliver personalized trash talk based on real game results and your friends' team affiliations.
- Generate AI trash talk — your friend names and team preferences are sent to our AI systems to craft relevant, game-specific messages.
- Improve the app — analyze usage patterns to fix bugs, improve performance, and build features that people actually want.
- Send notifications — alert you when your friends' teams lose so you never miss a trash talk opportunity.
- Communicate with you — send important updates about the service, respond to support requests, and occasionally share product news (you can opt out of non-essential emails at any time).
03. Third-Party Services & AI Data Sharing
We work with a small number of trusted third-party services to power the app:
- OpenAI — we use OpenAI's API to generate trash talk messages. When a message is generated, the following data may be transmitted to OpenAI for processing: game context (teams, scores, stats), your selected tone preferences, and friend names/team affiliations you have entered. We do not send your email address, password, or personal account information to OpenAI. Data sent to OpenAI is subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy and usage policies.
- ESPN — we pull live scores, stats, and game data from ESPN's public APIs to ensure every roast is grounded in real results. No personal user data is shared with ESPN.
- Google AdMob — we use Google AdMob to serve advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers, IP address, and usage data to serve relevant ads. You can manage your ad preferences through your device settings. See Google's Privacy Policy for more details.
- RevenueCat — our subscription-management provider. It processes your purchase events and a randomized app user ID to manage entitlements. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Sentry — error and performance monitoring. Sentry may process diagnostic data including IP address and device/OS details. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
By using the Service, you consent to the sharing of the data described above with these third-party providers as necessary to deliver the Service's features.
04. Do Not Sell or Share / Your Privacy Choices (California & U.S. State Laws)
We do not sell your personal information for money. However, our use of Google AdMob to show personalized advertising involves sharing advertising identifiers and device/usage data for "cross-context behavioral advertising." Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and similar laws in states such as Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and others, this disclosure of identifiers to an advertising partner may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
You have the right to opt out of this sharing:
- In the app: go to Settings → Legal → "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information," or disable personalized ads via your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking / Apple Advertising; Android: Settings → Google → Ads).
- Email us: send a request to privacy@trashtalkapp.com with the subject "Do Not Sell or Share."
- We honor opt-out preference signals, including the Global Privacy Control (GPC), where required by law.
California residents also have the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. The categories we collect are described in Section 01. To exercise any right, contact privacy@trashtalkapp.com; we will verify your request and respond within the time required by law (generally 45 days).
05. GDPR / UK GDPR (European Economic Area & United Kingdom)
If you are in the EEA or UK, Trash Talk LLC is the data controller. Our lawful bases for processing are:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the Service (account, generating roasts, subscriptions).
- Consent — for personalized advertising and tracking. Where consent is required, we request it through a consent prompt before serving personalized ads, and you may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — app security, fraud prevention, debugging, and product improvement, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data to comply with law.
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Some data (e.g., game context, AI inputs) is processed by providers in the United States; such transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards. To exercise EEA/UK rights, contact privacy@trashtalkapp.com.
06. Data Retention
We retain account and usage data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal, tax, accounting, or fraud-prevention obligations, or to resolve disputes. Aggregated or de-identified data that cannot reasonably be linked to you may be retained for analytics. Diagnostic/crash data is retained on a rolling 90-day basis.
We do not sell your personal information for monetary consideration. Where our advertising partner's processing constitutes a "sale" or "share" under U.S. state privacy laws, you may opt out as described in Section 04.
07. Data Storage & Security
We take the security of your data seriously:
- All data is encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption.
- Data is stored on secure servers with access controls and monitoring.
- All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit using TLS.
- We regularly review our security practices and update them as needed.
That said, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we do our best to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
08. Your Rights
You have control over your data. Here is what you can do:
- Delete your account — you can delete your account at any time from the app settings. When you do, we permanently remove your personal data from our servers within 30 days.
- Export your data — you can request a copy of all data we hold about you by contacting us at the email below.
- Opt out of notifications — you can disable push notifications and marketing emails at any time through the app settings or your device settings.
- Correct your information — you can update your username, email, and team preferences directly in the app.
If you have questions about exercising any of these rights, reach out to us at support@trashtalkapp.com.
09. Children's Privacy
Trash Talk is intended for users who are 16 years of age or older, consistent with the app's store age rating. The Service may generate content containing strong language, profanity, and mature humor. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected data from a user under 16, we will promptly delete their account and associated data.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@trashtalkapp.com and we will take steps to remove that information.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your data.
